As our winter sports season comes to a close, we are taking the opportunity to interview a few standout senior athletes from our ski and basketball programs. We begin today with senior boys basketball star Luke "Big L" Bradford, who is currently preparing for tonight's district semifinals matchup against Marion, tipping off at 7:00 PM on our home court!

Q: What was your favorite basketball game this season?
A: Playing Suttons Bay away. (The Portagers won 62-27 at Suttons Bay one week ago today.)

Q: How is your relationship with Coach Bradford?

A: Good! He really wants the best for us and the team.

Q: How has your experience as a senior been?

A: It's cool... I have been able to lead our younger athletes.

Q: What will you miss the most about being on the basketball team?

A: I will miss playing basketball the most.

Q: What is one thing basketball has taught you?

A: It taught me that no matter what, things can turn around for the better.

Q: What are some wise words to pass down to the next generation of basketball players?

A: Keep practicing and just work hard.

Q: Are there any highlights of the season you wish to share?

A: My backboard block against Brethren in districts. (The Portagers defeated Brethren 49-37 on Monday to open district playoffs.)

Q: Is there anything you didn’t accomplish that you wish you had during the season?

A: I wish that we would’ve won a few more games. (The boys went 12-10 in the regular season, and 9-5 in the Northwest Conference.)

Q: What are some valuable lessons that you have learned as a student athlete?

A: I’ve learned to have resilience in tough times.

Q: What is one good thing you can take away from this season?

A: That me and my teammates got closer as friends by playing basketball together.

Q: What do you think was your most challenging loss?

A: Leland... I got hurt part way through.

Q: What was the most awarding win? Why?

A: Beating Frankfort at Frankfort. It was rewarding to come back after being down, and it showed a lot of resilience. (Editor's Note: Good pick by Luke. Beating a rival on their home court is a great feeling!)
