Interview conducted by Cadence Beatty (Class of 2028)

Senior Hailey Hart was recently recognized by our school as our high school Student of the Month. As part of our Student Spotlight series in Journalism, we are interviewing Hailey to learn more about her and her secrets to success!

1: Is there a teacher or staff member that you look up to as a role model or for inspiration?
Mrs. Delke. She will take time out of her day to sit with me and help me with anything that I am struggling with (school related or not). She truly does what’s best for her students in every aspect because she cares about us as people and not just kids. Taking on the role of NHS Advisor for us and engaging with us deeply even when she has so much going on in her own life is one thing that has inspired me.

2: How do you keep yourself motivated through large and/or challenging workloads or burnouts?

I remember that it is a privilege for me to be taking high school and college classes. I am so lucky to have the availability of education and support that we have.

3: How would you define success, beyond grades or awards?

I think success is being content within yourself about the things you do. As long as you are happy with your accomplishments, that is all that matters.

4: Who/what keeps you striving for success?

My future is what keeps me striving for success. I want to go to a four-year university and become an SLP (speech-language pathologist), and I know it will take dedication to get there.

5: What is one thing you wish more people knew about you?

I love cats.

6: If you could give your freshman self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Take it in and get involved; they weren’t lying when they said it goes by fast.

7: What is one of your favorite classroom memories?

Having breakfast together in Mr. Lenon’s on the first morning of senior year.

8: What are you most proud of from your many years as an Onekama Portager?

All of the friendships I have made over the years.
