Onekama earned a huge second victory of the season over Marion on Friday. The Portager team kept a steady lead throughout the entire game, ending with a final score of Onekama 38, Marion 16.

When asked if he was happy with the team's road effort, head coach Justin Sedelmaier responded, “Absolutely, one hundred percent; especially the way we came out of half time. We fixed a lot of things that we did wrong in the first half, and they did what they needed to get the win.”

Andrew Potter, one of the team's new senior leaders, started the game off strong by scoring a touchdown on the first play of the game, allowing Onekama to start ahead and stay ahead. After that touchdown, Onekama recovered their own onside kick, gaining an even larger advantage against the Eagles and never looking back from there.

Although the team's early results and full-game results were excellent, Coach Sedelmaier still sees room for improvement. “We have some things to work on. We came out a little flat this week. But at the end of the day, we still came away with the win.”

At the end of the first quarter, the Portager team stuffed the Eagles for a safety, earning them two points on the board. By the time the third quarter was over, the Portagers were dominating Marion 30-8. Onekama’s defense prevented Marion from putting many points on the board from there. Tyler Hart shot down a potential Marion touchdown in the secondary towards the end of the third quarter.

The night's most notable performance came from senior Luke Bradford, who posted one of the most productive single-game offensive performances in school history. Bradford notched four touchdowns on six receptions for a staggering 251 yards. He also booted a long 45-yard punt and scored on a two-point conversion.

Onekama hosts Brethren on Friday at 7 PM.
