Interviewed by Jasmine Lapp (Class of 2026)
Edited by Mr. Zane Harding (Journalism Advisor)
As our winter sports season comes to a close, we took the opportunity to interview a couple standout senior athletes from our ski and basketball programs. We begin to close our winter sports coverage today with senior ski star Aleah Blackmore, who finished her final ski season as an All-State athlete for Onekama! Aleah's interview was conducted by friend and teammate Jasmine Lapp.
Q: What was skiing like when you started?
“I don’t know! I was just a baby, but I liked skiing with Ashlyn (sister).”
Q: How do you feel about being done with something you put so much work into?
“It feels weird... like I just got fired from my job.”
Q:. What was going through your mind when you were in the start gate for that final run?
“Honestly?... I had to pee really bad.”
Q: What was going through your mind after that last run?
“I don’t know! I guess I was just trying to process it. Like, wow, that was my last run.”
Q: Are you proud of how you’ve done over the years?
“I think there were ups and downs, I've had moments where I was and moments where I thought I could've done better.”
Q: After watching seniors before you leave, how does it feel to be the one leaving?
“When I was a freshman I never really thought that that would be me so now that it is i can’t really process it.”
Q: Will you keep skiing in college?
“Yes.”
Q: Do you plan on racing as well?
“Yeah, but not as seriously.”
Q: What are your after graduation plans?
“I'm going to college to study biomedical engineering. That's about all I know so far.”
Q: What is some advice you’d give to your younger self?
“Ignore everyone else and do it for yourself.”
Thank you for a personality-filled interview, Aleah! Stay tuned for OCS Journalism's final round-up of our ski and basketball winter sports seasons later this week.
