The Onekama boys and girls basketball teams both played over the weekend!

GIRLS

The Lady Portagers pulled off an impressive 65-41 win over Buckley at home on Friday evening, and the News Advocate's Michelle Fedder had the full game recap up on Saturday. The JV Lady Portagers put up a good effort, but ultimately fell to Buckley's JV team 41-26.

Coach Bennett had this to share about the women's game — "The Lady Portagers didn't play a game for over a week thanks to Mother Nature, but when they hit the floor on Friday evening versus the Buckley Bears, they were ready to play!  Lots of action and an all-around team effort to take the win with a final score of 65-41.  The Portagers were well balanced in the scoring column with four players in double figures and several other players close to double digits.  Eighth grader, Callie Sinke, had a great night all over the hardwood with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds, including six steals and four assists.  Delaney McCarthy and Ava Mauntler had 13 points apiece and Addy Zeller had 12 points.  Heather Zielinski and Carley Guerne had seven and six points respectively. Our next game is on Wednesday at Grand Traverse Academy."

BOYS

On Saturday, the varsity boys faced off against Bear Lake, pulling out a 63-42 victory. Onekama received an exceptionally strong performance from junior Caden Bradford, who sank six three-pointers en route to 29 points. The JV boys, meanwhile, played Ludington's freshman team on Saturday, falling in a close 47-40 match.  Once again, the News Advocate has the recap.

The boys varsity and junior varsity teams will face off against Frankfort on Tuesday. The girls varsity and junior varsity teams go to Grand Traverse Academy on Wednesday.
